What We Do
Classroom GuidanceWe work to develop students' social emotional skill set so they can be prepared for life and learning. Each month students receive a counseling lesson that is aligned to the ASCA National Model for School Counseling. Lessons fall within one of the following domains: social emotional, careers, or academic.
Mind Yeti Our counselors and teachers use Mind Yeti to teach students how to be mindful. Through an awareness of Hubbubbles (thoughts, feelings & sensations) students learn strategies to calm the hubbub and get back to learning and being a good friend. Check it out! You can even use it at home. Restorative Justice At FKES, we use restorative justice practices to facilitate problem-solving conversations between students. Personal Body Safety Lessons We are committed to student safety.Personal Body Safety Lessons are taught in each classroom, every year. Counseling GroupsSmall Group Counseling is a little extra support. Some students will be invited to participate in small group counseling with one of our amazing school counselors. Small Group Counseling is not therapeutic, but seeks to build skills and knowledge related to one's social/emotional functioning or academic success skill set. Small Groups are brief, usually 6 weeks in length.
Lunch Bunches Lunch bunches are a type of Small Group Counseling. They are less skill development, but give the students a chance to connect with another adult, reflect on how things are going, and decide what they would like to do better. Teacher Referral We all work together at Forest Knolls! If your child's teacher notices that he/she needs a little extra support, they will ask the counselors to include your child in a lunch bunch. Parent Referral Parents are welcomed and encouraged to reach out to school counselors! We are happy to help. If you'd like to request your child be included in a Lunch Bunch, please e-mail or give us a call. |
Student Check-InsIf you are not sure what is going on with your child, but something is impacting his/her desire or willingness to come to school, ability to succeed academically or build/maintain positive friendships, call or e-mail us. We're happy to check-in with your child and see how we can help.
